Career Overview
Peter is a senior diplomat who has served on five continents in major countries, developed and developing, and is an expert on the emerging politico-economic world order. As British Ambassador to Brazil he transformed the UK’s relationship with Brazil through clear strategic focus and personal advocacy.
In his early career he worked in the Arab world and in London on Middle Eastern issues, including involvement in ending the Iran/Iraq conflict; and on EU issues, including heading up the EU/Economic part of the Embassy in Germany in the run up to the single currency. He subsequently spent five years managing change in the FCO as Finance Director then Head of the Administration.
Following his retirement from diplomatic service he acts as Adviser to BG Group, a multinational FTSE 100 energy company on Brazil and External Relations, Adviser to Smiths Group on Strategic Markets, and Special Advisor to the Prince’s Charities International Sustainability Unit.
He has advised major multinational companies with substantial investments and other commercial interests in Brazil, providing advice on how to address political and commercial risk, on how to deal with Governments and public authorities, and on obtaining commercial contracts from UK and foreign Government departments.
He is an accredited Mediator through ADR Group, a sister company to ADRg Ambassadors.
