Career Overview
As former British High Commissioner in India and Ambassador to Germany, Sir Michael represents companies in their negotiations with governments and provides strategic advice on political risk and bureaucratic processes.
As a senior diplomat Sir Michael has long experience as an international negotiator, in EU and G8 as well as bilateral. He ran the British government's biggest business support operation in Europe (Germany) and biggest in Asia (India), working closely with CEOs and board members of large companies, as well as with SMEs. He has extensive experience in negotiating with foreign governments, on barriers to trade and investment just as much as on foreign policy issues.
During his diplomatic career he served as Director of Resources and Principal Finance Officer for Diplomatic Service. He was an FCO Board member and later served as DG Economic and Europe. He gained valuable US experience as number 2 in Washington, and of France, as number 3 in Paris.
Further past positions include Minister/DHM in Washington and Director Resources and Principal Finance Officer at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. Sir Michael was Political Counsellor (Head of Chancery) in Paris and he has worked at the British Embassy in Bonn as First Secretary Political. His career also includes postings in Brussels, Geneva, New York and Kinshasa.
He is an accredited Mediator through ADR Group, a sister company to ADRg Ambassadors.
